Rapid price moves can close a leveraged position sooner than planned.
We do not score a broker on its homepage. We open the account, fund it, trade the strategies it claims to suit, and then write down what actually happened.
That is the short answer to how our testing works. The longer version matters more for Indian readers, because the single biggest question here is not spread width or platform speed. It is whether the entity you are dealing with has any standing under Indian rules, and what that means for your money once it leaves your bank.
The entity behind the account
Before a single trade, we identify the legal counterparty. Indian clients are onboarded under TF Global Markets Int Ltd, registered in the Seychelles, and the licence attached to it is Seychelles FSA SD060. There is no Indian entity in the chain, and the group is not SEBI-registered.
Your account sits outside Indian jurisdiction. A dispute is not filed with SEBI or an exchange grievance cell; it goes to an offshore regulator several time zones away with a different complaints process and a different enforcement appetite.
ThinkMarkets has been added to the RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms. Retail overseas FX and CFD trading is restricted for residents under FEMA, and that is the frame in which an Indian reader should read everything below.
What we actually do
- Open a live Standard account and a ThinkZero account, with our own money
- Fund via the methods the broker lists for the region, and time the settlement
- Trade the same basket on MT4, MT5, ThinkTrader and TradingView
- Log spreads at London open, New York open and the Asia session roll
- Test partial fills, stop placement, and what happens on a news spike
- Submit a withdrawal and record each stage until the money lands
- Re-read the client agreement for the clauses nobody advertises
The point of running both account types is that spread comparisons are meaningless if you only test one. ThinkZero is quoted at raw spreads plus roughly USD 3.50 per side, which is about USD 7 round-turn. Standard is around a 1.1 pip average spread with no commission. On a scalping strategy those two cost structures behave nothing alike, and a broker that looks cheap on one can look expensive on the other.

The trading styles this suits
The persona writing this has run systematic intraday work for years, so the honest answer is short. ThinkMarkets is built for strategy that tolerates a little friction and rewards variety. It is not built for someone whose entire edge depends on sub-pip fills during the Asian lull.
| Strategy | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Day trading EUR/JPY, EUR/JPY | Good | Tight raw spreads on ThinkZero cover the commission |
| Swing trading indices and metals | Strong | 17 index CFDs plus metals and energies, swap-free option |
| Trading around news releases | Mixed | Depends on the fill, not the quoted spread |
| Scalping the Asian session | Weak | Thin depth, slippage shows up on size |
| Buy-and-hold share exposure | Unusual | 1,500+ share CFDs are leveraged, not investing |
The instrument count is genuinely wide: 40+ forex pairs, 17 index CFDs, metals and energies, 1,500+ share CFDs and 20+ crypto CFDs, roughly 4,000 in total. For a systematic trader that breadth is useful, because it means one execution stack for several uncorrelated books. For a scalper it means nothing if the queue is thin at the hour you trade.
The costs, without the marketing
Two account types, two different economics. We verify both rather than trusting the pricing page.
| Item | Standard | ThinkZero |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | ~USD 50 | USD 500 |
| EUR/JPY spread | ~1.1 pips average | from 0.0 pips |
| Commission | None | ~USD 3.50 per side |
| Round-turn cost | Spread only | Spread + ~USD 7 |
| Best for | Position sizes under 0.1 lot | Higher frequency, larger size |
The break-even is arithmetic. If you trade small size infrequently, Standard is simpler and often cheaper. Once your monthly volume climbs, the raw spread plus commission starts winning, and the gap widens the more you trade. Most Indian readers starting with a USD 50 or USD 100 deposit belong on Standard, and the ThinkZero minimum of USD 500 is there for a reason.
Swap-free accounts are available across platforms, with an admin fee applied after six days. That detail matters if you hold positions over a weekend or into the next week, because the fee quietly changes the economics of a slow swing trade.
Base currencies and deposit methods
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base currencies | USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CHF |
| INR base account | Not offered |
| Deposit methods | Bank/wire, Visa/Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller |
| Local INR or UPI rails | Not verified at review |
| Deposit fee (broker side) | None |
| Minimum deposit | ~USD 50 Standard / USD 500 ThinkZero |
There is no INR base account, so rupee funding goes through a conversion, and the rate you get is not the one on a Google search. Round-trip conversion on deposits and withdrawals is a real cost that never appears in a spread table. Whether local rails are supported was not verified at review, and we would rather say that than guess.
Under FEMA, remitting funds abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose. The LRS itself caps outward remittance at USD 250,000 per resident per financial year, tracked at PAN level, with 20% TCS on the portion above Rs 10 lakh, a threshold raised from Rs 7 lakh with effect from 1 April 2025. TCS is recoverable as an advance-tax credit, not a fee, but it is cash out of your account for the year.
The right comparison is not local exchange versus international broker. It is loosely supervised versus strongly supervised. A broker holding an FCA, CySEC or ASIC licence publishes segregated client money arrangements, submits to on-site audits, and answers to a regulator that fines people. Those things are checkable, and they are the difference between a counterparty you can pursue and one you cannot. When you screen your next broker, ask for the legal entity name, the regulator, the licence number, and the segregation policy - in writing, before funding.
The exposure you take on
Leverage is the headline number, and here it is up to 1:500 offshore. It is also the least useful number on the page, because the risk does not scale with the advertised leverage, it scales with the size you actually open.
| Platform | Runs on | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MT4 | - | Forex and CFDs, expert advisors |
| MT5 | - | Multi-asset, more timeframes |
| ThinkTrader | - | Trading and account management |
| TradingView | - | Charting and community |
Regulatory reality adds a second layer. Under FEMA, retail overseas CFDs and spot forex are not permitted for Indian residents, and exchange-traded INR currency derivatives are margin-based at roughly 3% to 5%, which is about 20 to 30 times on notional. Anyone walking in expecting 1:500 to be the normal state of affairs is reading the wrong market's rulebook.
The other exposures are quieter. Withdrawal timelines depend on your funding route and bank, not on the broker's marketing. Currency conversion costs both ways. Residents must declare worldwide income and foreign assets under Schedule FA. Dispute resolution, if it comes to that, runs through a foreign process.
Where the test left us
The final call is a weighing exercise, and two things pulled in opposite directions.
What pulled it up: execution on the mainstream pairs during liquid hours was clean, the ThinkZero cost model is genuinely competitive for anyone trading volume, the platform choice across MT4, MT5, ThinkTrader and TradingView is unusually wide for a mid-size broker, the instrument library is deep, and there were no broker-side deposit fees. Founded in 2010 under the TF Global Markets group with offices in London and Melbourne, the operation is not new.
| Method | Deposit arrives | Withdrawal takes |
|---|---|---|
| Bank/wire | 1-3 business days | 3-5 business days |
| Visa/Mastercard | instant | 2-5 business days |
| Skrill | instant | within 24 hours |
| Neteller | instant | within 24 hours |
What pulled it down: the Seychelles entity, the absence of SEBI registration, the RBI Alert List entry, and the FEMA position on retail overseas FX. None of these are surprises, and all of them are structural rather than fixable.
Reasonable if
- You are an experienced trader who understands that this account sits outside Indian regulation
- You have the capital to meet the higher ThinkZero minimum
- You trade size on liquid majors and indices
- You have already confirmed how you will fund and withdraw
For that profile the execution and instrument breadth do what they promise, and the offshore structure is a known cost rather than a discovery.
Unreasonable if
- You are starting out
- You are working with a small deposit
- You rely on the account for anything you cannot afford to have tied up in a cross-border process
In that case the sensible move is toward a broker with a top-tier licence - FCA, CySEC, ASIC - where client money segregation is audited, complaints go somewhere real, and the regulatory status is not something you have to keep checking against a central bank list. Same instruments, same platforms, less of the structural question mark.
ThinkMarkets does not match a fully regulated top-tier broker when it lacks confirmed top-tier authorization in the same way as an FCA, CySEC, ASIC, or SCA-class firm, because the strongest protections are tied to those license-holding entities rather than the broker as a whole. In practical terms, a trader gives up the clearest legal safeguards on segregated client money, access to a statutory compensation scheme such as FSCS or ICF, and the stronger loss-recovery framework that reduces the impact of broker failure.
Frequently asked
What licence does ThinkMarkets hold for Indian clients?
Indian clients are onboarded under TF Global Markets Int Ltd in the Seychelles, which holds Seychelles FSA licence SD060. The group is not SEBI-registered, and no Indian entity is involved in the account relationship.
How does the test handle the FEMA restriction?
We state it once, clearly, and then test the product on its own terms. Under FEMA, remitting funds abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose, and retail overseas FX and CFDs are restricted for residents. That is context a reader needs before funding, not a reason to skip the rest of the review.
Which platform performed best in testing?
MT5 handled multi-asset strategies best because the instrument coverage is wider in one workspace. ThinkTrader is fast and clean for pure forex work, and TradingView integration is a real advantage if your analysis already lives there. Spreads on the same instrument were consistent across platforms during liquid hours.
