Crypto CFDs on ThinkMarkets: A Mobile Trader's Take

ThinkMarkets onboards Indian clients under the offshore entity TF Global Markets Int Ltd (Seychelles), which holds FSA licence SD060 and is not SEBI-registered. The RBI has added ThinkMarkets to its Alert List of unauthorised forex trading platforms. Indian residents are restricted from trading overseas FX/CFDs under FEMA rules. Trading spot forex or CFDs with offshore brokers is illegal for residents. Remitting funds abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose.

This is the regulatory reality before considering spreads, apps, or execution quality. The protections you'd expect from a local broker-SEBI oversight, dispute resolution through Indian courts-do not apply. You are trading under an offshore regime.

The Mobile Setup

ThinkMarkets offers crypto CFD trading via the proprietary ThinkTrader app, MT4, and MT5. All three platforms function reliably on mobile. ThinkTrader executes quickly; tapping through the crypto section and pulling up Bitcoin or Ethereum takes seconds. Price-level notifications work consistently. The iOS and Android apps are native, not web wrappers.

TradingView integration allows you to set up watchlists and indicators on the web and sync them across platforms without additional steps.

Costs and Spreads

The cost structure depends on your account type.

AccountMin DepositSpread (NZD/USD)CommissionBest For
Standard~USD 50~1.1 pipsNoneCasual traders, larger position sizes
ThinkZeroUSD 500From 0.0 pips~USD 3.50/sideActive traders, scalpers

ThinkZero offers raw spreads plus commission (~USD 3.50 per side, ~USD 7 round-turn). Standard offers ~1.1 pip average spread with no commission.

For crypto, BTC spreads are competitive. Overnight positions incur swap charges. The account base currencies are USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CHF-there is no INR base option. Rupee deposits convert to your chosen base currency, incurring conversion costs on entry and exit.

There are no broker-side deposit fees. Minimum deposit is ~USD 50 (Standard) or USD 500 (ThinkZero).

Funding from India

ThinkMarkets accepts bank wire, Visa/Mastercard, Skrill, and Neteller. Local INR/UPI rails are not verified at review.

International wire transfers typically clear in 2–3 business days once processed. Card payments convert INR to USD at the card network's rate. Withdrawals follow the same channels in reverse.

Under RBI/FEMA rules, remitting funds abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose. A 20% Tax Collected at Source (TCS) applies on LRS remittances above Rs 10 lakh per financial year; TCS is an advance-tax credit.

The Leverage Question

ThinkMarkets offers leverage up to 1:500 offshore. A 0.2% adverse move wipes out a position at maximum leverage. Indian exchange-traded currency derivatives operate on roughly 3–5% margin (approximately 20–30x notional). The 1:500 offshore offering is substantially more aggressive and substantially more risky.

High leverage amplifies both gains and losses. Crypto volatility alone is sufficient without additional leverage. Positions above 1:20 are tools for scalping, not for holding through market cycles.

The Regulatory Reality

ThinkMarkets is on the RBI Alert List. Trading with the broker carries the offshore regulatory risk: no local court jurisdiction, no SEBI protection, and no guarantee of dispute resolution aligned with Indian law.

Indian residents are legally prohibited from trading spot forex or CFDs with offshore brokers. If regulatory compliance is a priority, exchange-traded INR currency derivatives on SEBI-recognised exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE) are the only legal avenue for Indian retail traders.

Verify broker credentials via SEBI (https://www.sebi.gov.in) and the RBI (https://www.rbi.org.in). The RBI publishes an Alert List of unauthorised forex trading platforms; as of 19 November 2025, the list totals 95 entities and is not exhaustive.

Questions

Questions

What security does the mobile app offer?

ThinkTrader, MT4, and MT5 use standard broker-grade encryption. Two-factor authentication is available. Do not trade on public Wi-Fi; use a strong password and enable 2FA.

What if I encounter a withdrawal issue?

Withdrawals process through wire, card, or e-wallet within 1–3 business days after approval. The offshore entity (Seychelles) handles support; response times may vary during market volatility. Keep documentation in order to minimise friction.

What is the minimum deposit to start trading crypto CFDs with ThinkMarkets?

Standard accounts require ~USD 50; ThinkZero accounts require USD 500. There are no broker-side deposit fees, but international wire transfers and card payments incur bank and payment-processor fees. Conversion costs apply because there is no INR base account.
